What this quote is trying to state is that, you will never get anything in return if you are always choosing the wrong decisions. If you want to gain something then you have to make the right decisions. For example, lets say that all your friends are drinking and they offer you some and you say yes what are you gaining from that? you are not gaining anything. You want to gain trust, responsibility, and you want to gain your future. Another example is when you say no to drugs you are choosing what is right. By saying no to anything that is bad is correct. Its correct because you are gaining your future. You are gaining so much things by just saying no to bad habits. If your friends really cared they wouldn't put you in that position. That is why you always have to choose what is best for you and your future.
