Duties
and Responsibilities: An optician
is a technical practitioner who designs, fits and dispenses corrective lenses
for the vision of the person. Some opticians also design and fit special
appliances to correct the following: cosmetic, traumatic, or anatomical
defects. Other opticians are licensed to manufacture lenses to their own
specific way and design other spectacle frames and other devises. Opticians may
work in hospitals, joint practice, eye care centers, laboratories, and retail
stores.
Salary: $26,000 - $54,000
Education: High school diploma, on-the-job programs, licensed, project
job growth (2012 – 2022) equivalent at minimum; employers may prefer those with
certificates or associate’s degrees.
Reflection: Would you
like to become an optician? Why? Why not?
I wouldn’t
like to be an optician because it seems really boring. Mostly all you do is
design classes or lenses and that doesn’t seem fun at all.
